I knew that artists used symbols in there work before I took this class. I thought that artists used symbols in there work to get a point across. Whether is was about politics or something different. before I took this class I didn't really use symbols when I drew. I drew for fun and for my own enjoyment. I didn't really like to show anyone what I drew because I was bad a drawing. When in this class we started to learn about symbolism I tried in my drawings at home to include symbolism at my drawing became much better. I drew this at home it symbolizes that being different isn't a bad thing.
My perception on symbolism has changed after taking this class. I used to think it was about trying to get people to guess or to understand. I learned that it is about a lesson teaching someone or making a point, standing up for what you believe in. I've used symbols in my artwork as well as in the piece above to show that there's a wrongness in the world. Why should you get judged or bullied for looking different, acting different, liking different things. There's nothing wrong with being different, like is quoted above "Normal? Whats that, that's just a setting on a washing machine, and who wants to be that"-Ashley Purdy.
I learned some important and useful things in art. I learned how to draw hands, and as you can see above and will see below I learned how to draw realistic eyes. I learned how to mix acrylic paint colors, I learned different water color techniques. I also learned that there is a lot of things wrong with the world and art gives you an outlet to express how you feel in a calm manner.
If I could add or change anything about this class I honestly wouldn't change a thing it was an amazing class with an amazing teacher and an amazing substitute. I had a great time.
